WEEK 1: Introduction and week 1 of clean eating

At 17, I was diagnosed with PCOS and was prescribed birth control pills. I gained a bunch of water weight and was bloated all the time.

For years, I have been searching for an antidote to be healthy. I knew deep down, that eating healthy was important for the well being of my body but I didn’t know how to go about it so I decided that I would try being a vegetarian. I cut out all sources of meat and my diet consisted of mainly processed foods, startches, dairy and some vegetables. I was never full so I just ate and ate. My body wasn’t balanced and I wasn’t working out so I gained weight and accumulated FAT.

Fast forward to 2016, I started going to a nautralpath and she taught me what my body needed. I was lacking protein in my system and that’s why I was hungry all the time. She taught me what supplements I needed and explained the benefits of each one.  It’s been a roller coaster of a ride because my diet wasn’t always “perfect” and so coming into 2017, I’m taking it day by day in my journey of eating clean.

Realizing that I’m feeding my body the nutrients it needs to work instead of feeding it because it’s hungry is the first step to maintaining a lifestyle instead of a fad. It’s been a week of eating well and that it’s been a huge milestone for me!

There’s something so satisfying about buying whole foods and making it myself.

My hope for this year is to commit to eating well. I hope that it would be spark inspiration to create more foods that would be beneficial to my body.

Reflection of week 1

Week 1 was surprisingly easy. With the help of the amazing creation of the Vitamix, I have been able to make smoothies that are well blended and thick. I drink at least 2 a day and that has filled me up as I’m not craving as many sweets! It has been an exercise of daily discipline as I intentionally focus on everything that I eat. My breakfasts have consisted of spinach omlettes, and smoothies. My usual lunch is a balanced protein salad and my dinner consists of mainly a protein and a good vegetable; typically, broccoli, kale, tomatoes. Avocados have been LIFE and I have been pleased on how I have implemented it in my diet. Bread has been my weak spot but I am staying strong! I’m learning to incorporate cauliflower rice and other healthy grains in my diet as well.
